Request from my systems admin pertaining to a new employee who will be outside the company network:

He needs an extension - but no phone.
He needs the ability to change the number that this extension call-forwards to.

This employee will give customers this extension to call and then he will forward this extension to his home or cell phone and needs the flexibility to change that forwarded number. He is never in-house so does not need a physical phone.

This is the request.........can it be done?? Definity G3V9

Thanks for any input you may have!!

Kim

Inter-Tel have "remote programing feature" It lets you call in and type in Feature code for "forward all calls"
3Com give the user the abliy to forward their phone for the browser (user login).

If the system that you are using does work like that then the exp. way would be to buy a "find me follow me" add on feature.

The "get around" would be to forward that extension to one number for BellSouth or(?) and get "call forwarding variable". You can call into a 800 number and change the forwarding path.

I would look into the "ability to change coverage". You can set Cov Path 1 to send all calls to the home, CP2 to send calls to the cell. He can then use remote access to select which coverage path to activate.

I don't think I am able to use remote access to allow users to change coverage or forwarding. This is the error I get when trying to set FAC.

"Extended Cvg/Fwd Admin feature not assigned"

Looking in my system parameters customer options, remote coverage options are not enabled. I am assuming this will be a problem???

Kim

Yep. You have to pay to have that feature activated by Avaya.

And I am assuming this is the only viable option for what I am attempting to do.

Thanks for your assistance and I'm off to the systems admin to share the good news!! [smile2]

Have a good one!!

We do run Avaya IP softphones, but this user is a sales manager several states away and always on the move. He needs a way for other salesman to contact him and they want it to come in on our 800 number and tranfer out.

can he not travel with an ip phone and plug it in
were he's @

No, not really. He is on the road alot traveling to businesses and uses his home as his office. He is a salesman/sales manager. They want him always available to take calls, not just return them.

You might try posting this on the AVAYA DEFINITY forum for more input!

Whilst I guess this is a cost option in the US (i believe people in the US pay to receive cellphone calls) - why not forward to a cellphone?

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

At this time it is not an option to upgrade the phone system to allow for remote access; they are choosing not to pay for his cell phone usage since he is an outside salesman also; and he is on the road so much an IP phone isn't realistic.

So, I set him up for a remote coverage path and we get to change his coverage for him as he needs. Definitely not the ideal solution. :-(

Thanks for all of your input!!

:-D

depends on the cell phone provider as to the cost, but this one made my day

Do you have Remote Access set up? That is an extension that you call, hear a beep, type in a code and then have access to the phone system. If so you could create a code that has no privilege but internal access. Then he dials the FAC for forwarding a phone, dials his extension, dials the number to point to and presses # to complete the call.

He can change his forwarded number without your intervention.
