When you send an email and you attach a word document it shows up with a "word" image within the email. i was wondering if i could change this picture. can i use my companies logo, so that when i send a word document, they would click my logo to open it up?

From the viewpoint of a Tech HelpDesk coordinator, it's usually a good idea to keep the icon that a particular software program uses so that if someone has a problem opening a document, I have them forward the e-mail to me. If it's a program I have but they don't, then the icon automatically tells me what type of file it is. Then, we can decide if this is something they'll be getting on a regular basis and whether it would be wise to buy them a license. Without the original icon, it's sometimes difficult determining what kind of file it is.

Just my opinion. :)

AlsGal52 has a good point, but I would like to also point out that what you're asking is impossible anyway.

The icon image you see is determined by the file association you have set on your computer. For example .DOC files are associated with the Microsoft Word application. The icon you see is is grabbed from the actual Word program.

You could change the icon for .DOC files, but this would only affect your computer. The icon is not actually sent with the e-mail.

This explains why when you send, eg. a .PDF attachment, and the recipient doesn't have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed - they get that generic icon.

i see where you are both coming from, its not necessarily my idea. i gues, i just need to attach a word document that will contain information. having the Icon be my companies logo, would just be to identify that word document. i guess both you guys don't think it can be done? i have been told that it can, but not how, so if i can figure it out i will let you know. if you guys come across anything, can you share.

thanks
