I keep seeing websites that have flash where images seemlessly blend into one-another, most probably by lowering/increasing the alpha values of the images. However when i try to lower the alpha value of an image and tween it to a 100% alpha value (fades in), the image just appears with no fade.

I can blend images in this way using javascript, but i want to be able to do it within Flash. Can anyone help please?

Cheers

James

Sounds like you've got the right idea. Remember that the fade-in and tweening has to occur over a series of frames. The more frames between 0% and 100% alpha the slower the fade in.

There's always a better way. The fun is trying to find it!

Thanks tviman for the reply

However, i have done shape/motion tween many times before and am aware that tweens have to occur over a series of frames. Mine is currently over 10 frames with a shape tween between the two images. However when i view the movie, nothing happens for the first 9 frames, then suddenly on frame 10, the image changes instantly (no fade). I can tween things that i have drawn within Flash just fine, its just tweening images to get them to fade in that seems to be the problem.

Is there something different that i need to do to tween images other than just lowering the alpha at one end and 100% alpha at the other with a tween between them, as this does not seem to work.

THanks again

James

First keyframe _alpha is at 0% and second key frame _alpha is at 100%. No keyframes between the two. That right?

Wow JT that almost looked like you knew what you were doing!

Thats right, just the 8 frames that are the shape tween are between the two end frames with different alpha

Shape tween will not work on images, you have to use a motion tween. You also have to make your image a movie clip or a graphic symbol so that it will fade.
