Hi

I have a Microsoft Access application which prompts me for a password and opens the db in read only mode.
Now there is a bug in the forms application where it is linking to another database using a hard coded path.
I need to change the path but since this db opens only in read mode I am unable to do so.
Any slutions to change the mode to write so that ii can use the Link Table manager

Thanks

How is the read-only mode being established ?
Is it through the desktop shortcut/command line?
If so ignore the shortcut and open the file directly by double clicking it in Explorer/MyComputer.

A contractor had created it.I tried changing the file permissions in Windows Explorer.
But it still asks me for a password when I try to open the file.I have the password but it still opens in read only mode.
Maybe there is a different password for opening it in write mode

Thanks

Have you tried opening the file while holding down the Shift key?

WHen you are asked for the password can you tell whether this is a database password being requested or is there a username and password dialog presented?

Shift key does not work
It is a database password since it justs prompts me for a password ( does not ask for username)

Thanks

OK. Based on what you have said this is my thinking so far.
I have a couple of Q at the end which might confirm or destroy my argument.

You have checked that the file and folder permissions are not limiting access to read-only.
Starting by double-clicking the file still leaves the file read only.
The password you are entering is the database password.
(There is only 1 database password).

To me this points to one thing. The database has been secured using Access workgroup security. It has been done using a technique that gives the default user read-only access to all objects.
If this is so then progress from here is difficult.
You would need the correct workgroup file (.mdw) and a username and password to give you administrator access to the application.

Q.
Does anyone have read/write access to the file?
Have you tried to use the front-end on a different machine?
At what point are you told that the database is read-only?

Sorry for th elate reply

Nobody has RW access
Yes somebody else tried it on a different machine
The database first asks be for the password and after i enter the password it informs me that it is opening the file in read only mode.

I can ftp/email the files to you. There are 2 mdb files

Thanks

One final Q.
I assume you have checked the file properties and made sure that the read-only flag is not set - can you confirm this.

(This is my last hope - its all bad news from thereon).
