Using Macola 7.6.300b PSQL 8.5. The OE-TRX-Order Entry customer number search screen, by default apparently, has 3 columns: Customer Sort #, Customer Name and Zip. I would like to add columns for billing address, City, State. Can't see how to get that done via Designer. Can you explain to me how?

Thanks

In a Pervasive environment, you don't use designer to do this, you use search setup. However the first step is to go to the screen designer environment and jot down the search name you will be maintaining.

Then go to system manager, maintain, search setup. Not a real user friendly tool in a Pervasive environment.

This is much easier to do with SQL, and is a good reason to upgrade.

Thanks for your response, I'd love to upgrade to SQL, but won't happen soon. In the meantime..... I see my search name is AR-Customer and search number is 2 as that brings up the title that I'm looking for (in Search Setup), Customer Sort Name, and the columns that exist. How do you bring up Edit Search window so I can add the additional address columns?

The edit dearch window is a SQL only feature.

Did you go to system manager, maintain, search edit? You must do this in a Pervasive environment.

I went to System Manager, Maintain, Search Setup which is what I think you said in your first response....I don't see a Search Edit. Sorry, I don't mean to be dense, but I don't get a chance to work alot in Macola.

You are in the right place. Again there is no search edit button. Down at the bottom of the screen you are on you will see a list of the fields displayed by the search. Go down here and hit the insert button, then pick the new fields you want to see on the search. Save it and go test it.

Ok, thanks, I understand that part now. I want to add the street address, City and State to the default columns of Customer Sort Name, Customer No. and Zip, but it then exceeds the field length of 77. Is it possible to change the field length for the return set window? Add a horizontal scroll? Supposedly, before the update to 7.6.300B this search return set included the address. Thanks for your time and responses.

I do not believe this ever included the address, but I could be wrong.

I just tested what you are experiencing and it does not appear that you can make this longer. Another reason to abandon Pervasive.

Ok, I'll see if I can eliminate some of the columns necessary. It doesn't appear that I have the ability to change the existing column size either as they are greyed out, but maybe I can squeeze in the Customer Name, Customer No., City and Zip. That might work. Thank you very much for your assistance.

You can overlap columns in your search window. I've done this before in pervasive as well. This will provide your display. HOWEVER, you cannot perform a search on a field that is not a key in the file. To make it a key requires a modification to your ddf, which is a bit of a challenge, but it can be done. Everytime you do a macola update, you must save your current ddfs and copy back after the update, provide macola hasn't changed the ddfs from one service pack to the other. This is why your search used to work and no longer does after an update. If macola changed the ddfs, then you have to modify your ddfs again.

Why is a SQL upgrade such of a stretch? Its only $350 per user.
