We just had an SBS 2k3 server installed along with exchange 2k3. The person who set it up gave everyone the same e-mail address extension but two of the accounts are for a different company and need a different extension. example: all users are currently 123@abc.com and log in with 123@abc.local but I need to change two accounts to 123@xyz.com with login (not changed) 123@abc.local, is this possible? and fairly painless? If you have the answer and can take the time to write a tutorial or send me a link that would be great. contact me at js@stepnowskigc.com thanks.

Create a new recipient policy for the extra domain(see the Exchange System Manager help for more info) and then create new email addresses in each users' properties in Active Directory Users and Computers.

You can also create groups in AD and a recipient policy to make this process fairly magic-automatic. See my FAQ... faq955-5776

if its just two users, IMO the above two suggestions are quite overkill. Like killing an ant with a tank :p

I would just go into active directory users and find the two users and edit their properties. In the first tab (general) you will see the email address. Go ahead and fix it to the correct domain address and hit OK.

Exchange won't receive email for xyz.com until its told to do so with a recipient policy. If it's OK to assign all users the xyz.com address, then just add it to the default policy.

If xyz.com needs to be the "reply to" address for the 2 users, then, for the configuration listed in this post, uncheck the "automatically update based on recipient policy" check box for these users.

Your server will not accept delivery of mail for the xyz.com domain unless you modify/create a recipient policy for that domain. It's not enough just to add an address in the user properties. Just changing the email address is like trying to kill a tank with an ant... :p

my bad.

I thought he had a bunch of users already setup and receiving email to @abc.local except for 2 others that were setup different. And the goal was to get just these 2 users on board with the rest, and also have the @abc.local address - the same as everybody else.

Now thats a bunch of ants killing a couple tanks!

Thank you all for your help. Problem solved!
