I have a user that would like to change their user name but doesn't want to loose all their settings. Typicallly I just create a new account and copy over what is needed, what do I need to do to make this happen?

Just change the user name in AD.

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

There are no more PDC's! There are DC's with FSMO roles!

Also, if the user name changes, their SID stays the same. That means in the Documents and Settings folder will retain their old name.

There might be a few hard-coded items that stay the old way, such as the "Registered To" information on software. If you have the option to manually change those, you can change them on a case by case basis.

Otherwise, if they don't want to have the old information showing up in various misc locations, the only option is to create a brand new user and copy all appropriate data.

There may be software that will change everything for you, but it has been my experience that many of those products cause more headaches than they fix.
