Mer Mail is usally available via a vt220 terminal on your premise. Some companies utilize the same access to the PBX to Mer Mail via a A/B box. But, if you don't know how to access you would be better to get your vendor in.

I'm assuming it's a menu service(MS.) If you open the MS for 5100 down below at the bottom of the screen you will see options for voice or record. Those buttons align with the "F-keys" on the keyboard (usually F6,F7,F9...or F1,F2 it will depend on setup.) If you press the associated F key for record you can enter an ext number and it will ring it and you can record. (2-play, 5 record, # to stop) You can try that way. There is another way via prompt maintenance number which you can find in the VSDN table. Dial Prompt maintenance number from any phone, enter the MS number assigned to 5100 then the password that is assigned in the MS. Good Luck.

On the subject of Prompt Maintenance Number, so I would dial 4000 then enter 5100 when the message says box numer? or is there a specific number (could be anything)?
How to find VSDN table?
*Monday (I'm like 7 hours ahead of you) we will try to hyperterminal into the card but would like as much info as possible, thanks.

Mer Mail Main Menu--->VOICE ADMINISTRATION then select VOICE SERVICES ADMINISTRATION from the menu...I think the VSDN option is here (Voice service DN). Look for the one designated as Prompt maintenance...that is the number you call not 4000.

Well we attempted to access the Mer Mail this morning, results:
Just FYI there is an A/B/C/D box with SDI/Mer Mail/Core 0/Core 1 on it but it is not actually cabled up to anything.
There are two cards with ports in the front first one is a Cont -4 (NT8D01BC) with a DB9 and the second one is an ITG-P (NTVQ55AA) with a maint port which prompts us for a login. If we were accessing the correct card we don’t have the login.
Now speaking of logins we have a book with some papers in it and it does mention ETAS and below that word are some ‘admin’ login/passwords.

I got in. Now to figure out how to change the recording. By the way there is no number designated as maintenance.
Thanks for all your help.

I guess I need to breathe life back into this, I’m in to the Mer Mail but there is no Prompt Maintenance Number and I still need to change the recording for the announcement so should I make a PM number and go from there or is there another way from the announcement itself?

As I wrote in an earlier response, if you open(modify) the menu service that 5100 is associated to, one of the "F-keys" will read voice. When you select that option you should be able to tell the system to dial an ext. From there you can record, play, delete the recording. Or...build an unused DN as a acd-q (similar to 5100) then define it as prompt maintenance(PM) in Mer Mail. You can dial PM and record your messages from any phone. You will need the menu service number and its password to record it.
You can google Meridian Mail Administration Guide for detail information.
