Hi to all!!

Currently i have a stack with 7 switches, but i need to change the master switch to another switch, because the current master will be retired from the stack. I am wondering if exist some command to make this change or i only take off the master switch and automatically another will take the master roll.

Please advise.

Thanks in advance.

On the 3750s, you can change the priority of a particular switch in a stack if you want it to win election as the "stack master".
Just ID which switch you want to be the "master", then go into global config mode and type: switch X priority 15 (where X is the switch ID). You will have to reload, but this should achieve what you want to do.

But don't forget to save your changes to the startup config before you reload...

Ok. perfect i will do this, but only a concern, if i change the master and then a take off the old master, my configuration won't be affected?

Thank you for your quick response.

The configuration should not be affected. It will only be stored on a different switch than the one you wish to remove. Remember, the "stack master" holds the configuration for the entire stack.

But once you remove that other switch and re-arrange the Stackwise cables as needed, you should tell the "stack master" it is no longer there (by deleting it from the config) and reload again.

Hope this helps...
