For reasons unknown I Have an extension thats DES is the same as the extension number...3380, It needs to be 3903. Becauser it's not 3903, none of the functions work. Is there a way to change the DES, or do I have to reprogram the extension?

DN 3380
CPND
NAME Sally Price
XPLN 11
DISPLAY_FMT FIRST,LAST
TYPE SL1
TN 017 0 00 01 KEY 00 MARP DES 3380 16 FEB 2005
(3903)

The DES has nothing to do with the function of the phone, but you can change it in either LD 20 or 11.
LD 20
REQ: CHG
TYPE: 3903
TN xxxx
ECHG YES
DES (space bar)
DES (enter new info)

In both LD 20 and 11 it doesn't prompt for the DES, only the ITEM:

REQ: chg
TYPE: 3903
TN 17 1
ECHG yes
ITEM SCH0101
ITEM 3903

Why don't you out the phone and build it from scratch. I agree with cpm23 - the des has nothing to do with the features.

Hope this helps

Sorry. At the ITEM prompt type DES then hit the space bar.

An easy way to change the DES is to use LD 84, for 500/2500 sets, or LD 85, for Digital Sets. After typing LD 8x prompt will be "TN", enter TN number here, press return prompt is "DES", enter DES and press return. This willnot disconnect users that are on their set. type END or "****" at TN to end LD.

Normally your DES is an identifier for you, as in a Jack # or port number it is plugged into, or the room it is in. You don't need to know it is a 3903 in the DES, thats easy to see in the TN.

What is it that doesn't work, the DES can't make anything work or not work.?

the dn prompt, sets ext number on an analog set and key 0 scr xxxx sets the primary dn on a digital phone the designator is what i use for cable pair leaving the switchroom. some people use it for dept.. if you make them all x it will not matter. you can use them as part of your name display, if cpnd is programed for that

The DES is only a label that you can use for your own needs. Some folks make it the same as the extension number, some folks put in the cable number, some folks put some other identifer that will work in a relational database. Depends on your needs. other than being a label, it does nothing....except take up space.

MLUCKIE1, I tried your suggestion of using LD 85 to change digital set's DES but I do still cut off the user...

your switch is haunted, i'll test mine tuesday, but that is another strange post

I thought it was my imagination so I changed my own DES and, sure enough, cut myself off (using LD 85).

nortel makes changes again.. always something to learn

I though you guy's were smoking crack as I have used this for 20 years to make changes to the DES, so I just tried it and your right, it dropped the call on my phoneand it didn't print an ERROR code on the tty like when you do the change in LD 11. That's Nortel, reinvent the wheel every time.

I was training my co-worker (he was a newbie) on how to make changes to those sets with LD84 and L85. I told him to ALWAYS make DES changes in those loads, as they will never cut anyone off.

Guess who had egg on their face the 1st time he makes a change in LD 85.. yup [my hand is raised]!

this switch will make a humble man out of any tech given enough time..

The orignal Person that asked the question has only responded once and we don't know if he fixed his problem which he never told us what it was.

right, Ace, so there's no way to know you're even cutting off the user. I thought this news about LD 85 was the greatest thing since sliced bread till I kept cutting off my co-worker every time he physically moved a phone and called me from it with the new jack #...
