How do change the telnet port on redhat 8.0. I want to leave port 23 alone, and add an alternate port. I have done this in 6.2 and SCO. What files do I edit to add an alternate telnet port?

Okay,

If I'm right RH uses xinetd.

So add to your services telnet-alt

copy from /etc/xinet.d/telnet to /etc/xinet.d/telnet-alt

edit the file /etc/xinet.d/telnet-alt
change the line service telnet to
service telnet-alt

That should do the trick

That did it...thanks for the help...

One more thing...how can I make not show the welcome screen when telnetting...(Redhat Linux release 8.0 Psyche...)

in one of the startup files /etc/issue.net is created ...
Have a look in your rc.local (don't have a RH server in my neighborhood) :)
