Change Systemroot

Hi, all of our Windows 2000 desktops have the systemroot as WINNT. Is there a way to rename this folder to be WINDOWS.

I presume there are registry keys to change as well as the boot.ini?

Can anybody help?!

There are thousands of registry keys that depend on the path being \WINNT and not \WINDOWS

It really is not a feasible thing to consider without a clean reinstallation.
