change system folder name

A person's name was used for the main system folder.
That person has transferred to another department.
I have tried to rename the folder but XP gave me the following error: Windows system folder is required to run properly it can't be renamed or moved.
I don't want to wipe and reload the computer.
I would like to rename the folder to administrator.
Any help would be appreciated.

I assume that renaming the Administrator account itself was not the problem, it bothers you that the Folder containing the user itself is at issue.

. Create a temporary Administrator account and logon as that new user

. Logon under an original Administrator account, and remove the temporary Administrator account.

You mean the Installation directory of windows was named there name ?

Zen2Go,

I think the issue is...

You install XP and use an Administrator name of Zen2Go.

At this point the username and the C:\Documents and Settings\Folder name matches.

Zen2Go then gets a job offer and leaves. You hire a new Administrator and use User Accounts or lusrmngr.msc to change the name fro Zen2Go to bcastner.

The only issue is that the C:\Documents and SettingsFolder name still reads Zen2Go. You want it to read instead "bcastner."

All XP really cares about is the SID assigned to any user, including the original Administrator. It really does not care about Zen2Go or bcastner.

While not hard to change, and there are several clever ways to change and make syncrhonized the user profile folder and user name, it does drive some people crazy.

That is why I recommend the steps earlier, and simply make all Administrators named bcastner.
