Good morning,

I am searching if my Hybrid/PBX is able to block caller id/hide or give a false number. I have found this thread but cannot figure out to program it.

I open WinSPM and select Standard SPM. Sys Prog-->Start-->Lines and Trunks-->PRI-->Number to Send-->Line Telephone Number-->Enter the line Number

I get to here and get stumped. I thought I could add the 10 or 7 digit number but it does not seem to work. I want all calls out of my organization to be false/blocked.

Thanks in advance Tom. I know you will help me out as you do to many other users.

Hi: If you do not have T1/PRI service - then there is nothing you can program that will impact outgoing caller ID. If you were operating in Key Mode - you could press the specific line button you wanted to use - get dialtone - and dial the star-code to block caller ID. In Hybrid/PBX mode you can do that as well - except you will not know which specific line you grabbed when pressing 9.

Most Telcos output the main number for caller ID. You could call your Telco and ask them to block and/or send blank outgoing caller ID instead. But 0 mthis will affect all outbound calls going forward - and they may have a policy against it.

Even with T1/PRI - the only outgoing caller ID you can send - is a legitimate number and/or DID comming in inbound via PRI. You cannot send a blank or a phony number.

Thanks Tom.

We are using a T1 for Voice. Our Telco, PAETEC( using AT&T) stated that most phone systems can block caller id. When I get to an outside number and press *671234567, the call is not made.

So with the outgoing caller id, I can only use a number that is assigned with the T1/PRI.

Let says I have these 3 numbers, I can only have one of these three send out with the T1/PRI? Thanks,

The Merlin can manipulate ANIs if you have ISDN service. *67 works on standard POTS lines. I don't think it will work on a standard inband T1 circuit with 24 ports.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

No - you can program any number per channel. Your 23 channels are asigned to line numbers. You can program each channel to send any "legit" number. They can all be the same - or if you are running several business - then one number for let's say 8 channels, a different one for the next 8 channels, etc. and break up your channels into different line pools - one per company. Right now the channels are probably all in a single line pool - like Pool 70.

Or you can send DID's - but you can't send anything that is not setup to come in thru the PRI - like a nonsense caller ID - and you cannot send a blank - the Telco will not accept it - and you will bring-down your outbound calling capability if you try

I've never tried sending "nonsensical" numbers, but I submit that any properly-formed phone number will be considered as legit. A buddy of mine placed a call to me the other day (as a joke) and used the IRS' toll-free number as his Caller ID. I played a similar prank--although not as clever--and managed to send 911 as the calling number. It's pretty easy to tweak that stuff.

I have sent out all 0's and all 1's. it depends on the carrier. Some will only let you send what you own and most others are wide open. I have my demo system in my home connected to my office and then out my office PRI. I can call out of that and send my home caller ID.

Thanks for the insight everyone...

I have 3 main numbers that our offices used on the T1 (Pool 70,890,891). I tried entering one of the numbers but unfortunately, it did not work (1234567891). After I type the number in Standard SPM and click enter, it simply disappears. When I call my cell phone, the number did not change. I wish there was some type of confirmation with the program (I'm probably doing something wrong).

you have to put the 10 digit number in not the 11.

Where are you keying in the telephone number to send?

kwing112000,

what do you mean by the 10 digit number? area code and phone number. If so, that is what I enter. After entering digits, I restarted the system via Standard SPM to see if it needed to reboot in order to make the changes.

Tom,

I am entering the number within WinSPM in the Standard SPM interface.
Sys Prog-->Start-->Lines and Trunks-->PRI-->Number to Send-->Line Telephone Number-->Enter the line Number
When it asks to make a selection for the entire system, I choose Line Telephone Number. Should I choose another option (Extension Only/Base Number with Ext.)?

Thanks!

You are in the right place and just key in all 10 digits (area code, exchange, last 4 digits - with no spaces or dashes). Do it for each PRI line - keeping in mind that you may want to enter different numbers for the three different company pools. Once completed - call your T1/PRI provider and ask them to "turn on" your ability to send - and them to recieve your caller ID info. Remember each active PRI line/channe; - MUST have a number to send keyed in.

Thanks, I will give them a call. Hopefully this will close the thread. I will let you know the outcome.
