Change Path of data and log files

We need to change the path of the databases and log files; i.e.: eliminate some of the in-between directories, for backup automation purposes.

How can I do that without reinstalling SQL?

Why don't you detach the database, move the files to the new location, and then re-attach them?

but im sure if you could detach master db. i would think you can, but if its detached how would it know how to attach it back? Maybe someone else knows the answer to this.

If it is just user databases, it is not a problem.
