Hello.
I have this problem:
I have a linksys router, which had the ip address: 192.168.1.250. I have decided to change my network and gave to the router the ip address: 10.100.1.250, and 255.255.0.0 as a subnet mask. When i changed the ip address of the router, i also changed my ip address and subnet mask on my pc.
But, I cannot access the router anymore, and also cannot locate it through any program, or ping it.
Can someone help me?

Thanks in advance.

What IP address did you give each? Did you set the gateway also (not necessary just to ping the router...)?

router
ip address: 10.100.1.250
subnet mask: 255.255.0.0

pc
ip address: 10.100.1.67
subnet mask: 255.255.0.0
gateway: 10.100.1.250
dns:10.100.1.250

I've had this happen to me before.
On some devices, the IP change doesn't take effect until the router is rebooted.

If that doesn't do it, set your PC back to a static 192.168.1.x and see if the IP change even happened.

If you still can't get to it, you may have fat-fingered something while making the changes on the router.

Just thought of one more thing to try...

On your PC you can staticly assign an IP address to a specific MAC address.

The syntax is:
arp -s ip_address mac_address

The MAC address should be on the label of the router.

For example:
From the command prompt-
arp -s 10.100.1.250 00-50-04-62-F7-23

Thank you for your replies. I will try the solutions you gave me. I had this same problem with two routers before in the past.
I will give it a shot and let you know.

Thanks again.
