change of hard drive for hp gen 7 server

Hello,
Is it possible to fix an hp gen 8 hard disk into a gen 7 hp server.
Kingly add details or explanation to the answer.

Per HP...11: Gen8 hard drives are incompatible to Generation 7 and below servers.

That being said, it is the caddy that is the issue, you could just swap the drive to the correct caddy and it would work as long as the size was supported.
