Hi!

A maybe strange question

I have a fully functional updated and "ghosted" Win XP SP2 Office SP3 system and have just invested in a "New" motherboard setup...

'Old' Mb:
Mercury KOB KT266a FDSX
AMD K7 (Socket A) Mainboard w/ VIA KT266A
with AMD Athlon XP, 1533 MHz

'New' MB:
WinFast 760GXK8MC
with AMD Sempron 754 330

THE Question....

If I simply build the new system using the old systems "as-is" HDDs...... (including the boot HDD software etc etc for the old MB & Processor)... What will happen on boot up???? (I have all the install CDs at hand along with a ghost image of the drives)

Would be nice to avoid a lot of installing software basically!!!

There is a MS procedure exactly for this...
Just be careful and follow the steps exactly...
I have done this a couple of times & know others that have used it with success.

How to replace the motherboard on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000

It is basically this only with the interruption:

How to perform an in-place upgrade (reinstallation) of Windows XP

Good Luck

Hope you find this useful

Kinda makes me smile
So what this acticle is saying is re-install over the top!
So OK! your Office will be intact but this method still carries a risk.
Bottom line, in my opinion, you might as well start from scratch anyway for the sake of an extra 30 minutes updating and re-installing.
At least you will have peace of mind knowing that the install in virgin and without issue.

Since the changes will be in the drivers and setup for the hardware I am reasonably confident it will work ok.... at worst I can start over but a rebuild to new disks will take a little more than 30 minutes since the Ghost image will be fashioned around the old MB and processor architecture...

Thanks for the reply anyway...
