I'm new to this and want to change the Network Protocol on a Definity G3r from NI-2 to DMS100 and later to 5ESS. Any tips?

I have seen somewhere that for the T1 setup, the protocol versions are:-
5ESS == a
NI-2 == b
NT == c

What is DMS100?

Thanks in advance.

DMS 100 is a dated Nortel switch used by many local carriers of dial tone. It has seen the 250 and the 500 series come around of late. Avaya calls theirs the 4ESS and 5ESS, while Nortel uses DMS designations.

DMS 100 is a local CO switch
DMS 250 is a Carrier combo switch (local and L/D)
DMS 500 is a carrier L/D switch

4ESS is a carrier switch primarily L/D, sometimes used for dedicated L/D trunking to Customer level PBX's
5ESS is local CO switch

In the DS1 setup
4ESS/5ESS protocol "A" for AT&T custom
" protocol "B" for NI2 (National) and [National Custom- name/number]

Nortel Protocol "C" NI2(name/number)
" Protocol "D" NTNAPRI (unconfirmed but I believe correct- could not find exact docs)
Nortel (AT&T emulation) National 41449
Nortel (AT&T Custom Emulation) 41459
