We have a merlin legend with two digit extension numbers which we wish to change to 3 digit extension numbers, In a move I misplaced the manuals and I cant find the information in the volumes from Avaya Web Site although I know it's there. Can some one please tell me the correct way to change extensions from say 13,14,15,16,17 to say 130,140,150,160,170 etc

Tried that no workie - I thought it was that simple but apparently not. I tried using the console as well as SPM on confirmation (enter) the screen just goes back to the old extension number, and no change. It is possible to change the 2 digit extension to another 2 digit extension but does not work to change it to 3. Is it neccessary for the extension to already exist? example changing 13 to 130 does 130 need to exist. I know I have swapped a 2 digit extension to a non used 3 digit before and then moved it to another 2 digit from there when changing agent desks. The reason for this change is simply to match the mailbox number on messaging 2000 to the extension number as it is at my other properties.

First verify that your system is set up for three digit dialing. I usually set the system for set up space that puts the system in 4 digit dialing and then do block renumber to the desired extension length and number. this gives the system more flexibility for renumbering later.

system renumbering
default
set up space

First extension will now be 7100. You can then renumber to whatever you want as long as the first number doesn't conflict with other numbers in the dial plan.

don't you have to be in Hybrid mode to use set up space, he may be in KEY

I would expect a Hotel (Hotelguy?) to be in Hybrid.

But, before you change to set up space, use WinSPM to do a print of your Dial Plan, and an Extension List. That will give you a basis of what your extension numbers are now, and what they defaulted to in Set Up Space, so you can then do your renumbering.

Thanks to everyone! This system is in Hybrid, by the way - and sorry if my "Handle" might be misleading. My company has many Hotels, Apartments etc. All my Hotels, however have either Definity switches with Audix or Mitel switches with DuoVoice - this Legend is in the main office and supports corporate, my tech support offices for 24 properties, and specialty reservations agents. I inherrited it when we acquired the property and moved to the office here. My experience with Legend is limited. For whatever reason the previous small office had 2 digit extensions with 3 digit mailboxes on Messaging 2000. To accommodate our number of personnel I needed many more extensions, and V Trees in the AA and also virtual mailboxes for outside sales people. The two digits just was not handling what I needed. So a few hours from 1 am to 5 am and started from scratch, more than what I wanted to do right now but it's all set for when the rest of the staff arrives to this office.
Thanks again to everyone!
