Is amy utilty or application available to change the names of files.

Acctualy i have almost more than 1000 JPG files, My family was visiting me and i had so many pictures in different folders. Every day i took pictures and copy on hard drive so my camera card become empty for next day. Every day it start file name from IMG_0001.jpg. If i copy all pics in one folder it will over write with others.

Now what i want is, if i run any utilty it check the date and time and give new name in sequece so i can copy all files in one folder.

Thanks

I have code somewhere to do the same thing as below.
But, you might find an overall improvement to use something like PowerDesk (Home version is free), which is a partial substitute for the MS Explorer UI.

If you mark several files and select "Rename", it will present you an input form to give a name for the first file. All other files will have the same name followed by a number as in MyFile(1).Jpg.

Or....

(not the answer to your question, but the solution to your problem)

Set your camera so it will NOT start from IMG_0001.jpg every time you empty your disc. My camera is up to IMG_07865.jpg or something now.

Check it out, it may help you.....

Have fun.

SBerthold, thanks for information, let me find and try this and i will let you know. Thanks

Andrzejek, yes you are right, i need to adjust in camera so it continue the numbers instead it start from 1 every time.

Many cameras start from the highest existing number and increment for each successive pic. When you download, just remove all EXCEPT the highest numbered one and the camera will continue numbering from there..

Another way -> I found this working in XP SP2.

Select all the files you need to rename.
Hit F2.
Type the new name.
If you typed 'Pic.jpg' the rest of the files are automatically renamed to 'Pic(1).jpg'...'Pic(n).jpg'.

You could do this in each folder (just pick different names for files in each folder; if you have three different folders, you need to pick only three names) copy all files to one folder and rename all of them again!

Thanks for all of you who gave me very helpfull information. I used and tried all methods you guys gave me and all works. and my problem is solved.

Stars for all of you

Thanks
