Good afternoon to the forum,

What happens when a field name is changed in the table definition?

Am using Access 2002 and have multiple queries - forms - reports -etc.

Do the exisitng queries have to be adjusted for the change in the name? What about if the field is referenced in a query but via a different assigned name (Reference name:Field name)?

What happens if the query uses the * to select all fields in the table?

Am hoping that someone can set me "straight" on the above.

Thanks

You're up against one of the limitations of Access. The brief answer is that you have to find each occurrence and change it for yourself. You could search the Internet for an add-in which automates the job to some extent. they do exist, but will probably have a cost. There's really no substitute for assigning good names at the outset of your project. Most developers would give their right arms for the inclusion of a good data dictionary, but it just ain't there as far as I know.

Access makes all things possible. It even makes them intelligible
