I need to change our e-mail domain name on our exchange 2003 server. ie user@domainold.com to user@domainnew.com

Is this a simple process or is this going to be a pain in the but???

yes its gonna be a pain in the but beleive me

u have to use a utillity adsiedit

If you only want to change the default email address, it's simple. Add a recipient policy with the new email address set to primary. Set it at the highest priority. Now exchange will accept delivery for newdomain.com and all your users will be stamped with that address as their primary. All that's left is to make sure the external DNS for newdomain.com MX record points to your exchange [or is redirected to it by the firewall] and you have the appropriate PTR record.

If you want users to log on as user@newdomain.com, then you'll also need to add a new UPN suffix, and assign that suffix to your users.
