Trying to change the Display name of a user in their mailbox. I have changed it on in AD but it does not appear on the mailbox or when the user send an email..
How did you go about changing it in AD? Did you change it in the users properties, or by right click --> Rename on the object?
I believe the right click --> Rename is what you need to do to get it to change in the directory, but you should change the properties, and rename the user object.
Then I think you're out of luck. You have to rename the object in Active Directory to get it to show up that way in exchange, as far as I know.
I'm not sure what percieved change the user will go through, they'll still have the same login ID, you've already changed the properties on the account - unless you've got some app that's tied into AD and is pulling object information, no one will ever know the differance.
I could be wrong though, there may be another way to change it, anyone out there know any voodoo to have the AD object and the display in Outlook to be different?
1st, perform a search of the user from the AD root. Once user has been located, perform a right click on the user, select Rename, change the Display name.
I have used ADSI edit in the past to make the display name change after it failed using the rename wizard. Microsoft has a technet doc describing the problem.
