Does anyone know how to change the default name of Excel Spreadsheets?
For some reason the Default name on my server when opening Excel is Book2 and I need it say Book1.
There are no other Spreadsheets open at the time and it still says Book2.......
Does anyone know how to fix this????
Thank You In Advance! =o)

Probably already done this... but still....

In Windows Explorer, go to Tools, Folder Options, View Tab; make sure "Show Hidden files and folders" is selected; make sure "Hide file extensions for known file types" is unchecked. Serach for file Book1* or ~*.xl* and see if any of those make sense.

Lastly, try going to Add/Remove Programs and repair office.

Probably done that too.

You said: I then logged off the server and logged on with a different userName and when I start Excel Book1 comes up but Book2 still comes up with the other log in ID.

Is it consistent across different machines with that misbehaving login? If it is, it sounds like the roaming profile for that login has something funky going on. Could you recreate the login or unassign and reassign the Excel software to that login?

I agree with CJTyo, and also want to reiterate what someone (I THINK) already tried to say:

You said:

As to why this silly problem matters....one of the programmers wrote a VB app that opens an existing spreadsheet and starts a new Excel spreadsheet and in his code he references Book1 for the new Excel spreadsheet before he saves it under a new name(at the end).......isn't that ridiculous...

If code references Book1, it is badly made code. You could have opened three new worksheets during this session of Excel and you'd now be at Book4, so your code wouldn't work right half the time anyway. Have the coder FIX that code so it references the new workbook, regardless of its name. Anne Troy

Yes I agree also, without a doubt, but the fact still remains that with absolutely nothing running if I start Excel manually it starts at Book2

I tried the login on other PC's and it comes up normal as Book1....

The the profile(s) on the particular system is (are) corrupt

So, on that particular machine OTHER logins work okay and on other machines all logins work okay?

Remove that login from that machine completely and login totally fresh.

yes, i know, it's definitely something with his personal setup....i was trying to see if i could fix it without reinstalling it....

ilanit,

You don't need to re-install. Just rename their profile or delete it. Shutdown. Startup and get them to logon again.

that's exactly what i did...it worked...

HEY ALL THANX FOR ALL YOUR FEEDBACK.......THIS THREAD IS CLOSED!
WELL DONE!
