Can anyone direct me to the registry setting for the default folder view in W2K. I want to make it List view.
We run mandatory profiles and when making new profiles always change the default view to list. But when we assign the profile, in some cases the views are fine but others if you go down 2 or 3 levels the view changes back to large icons. We can have 2 identical users logged onto 2 different machines and the views are different. We have spent quite a bit of time comparing different users to find out why and have decided a registry change would probably be easier.
Any Help would be appreciated.

Here is an alternative:

1. Open Windows Explorer

2. Choose the columns you would like to see (Go to: View -> Choose Columns).

3. Set the columns as you like (Column-width, sort-order)

4. Set other folder options - go to: Tools -> Folder Options
(A) On the General tab, set 'Use Windows classic folders' and 'Open each folder in the same window'.
(B) On the View tab, set other attributes as you wish (to force your settings, turn off 'Remember each folder's view settings').

5. Most important: When you are done, press the [Like Current Folder] key on the View tab.

Hope this helps...

tigsboy - you could use regmon (freeware from to monitor registry when changing everything to list view. Should highlight where in registry changes are made (regmon can be a bit confusing as many entries - though you can filter) - so you can work out required regedit.

I have gone thru all those steps goneng but the problem is the mandatory profiles. I haven't tried regmon but will let you know how it goes.
Thanks all
