Hi

Using excel 2010.

I have a total column (W) and from this total column I have another column that gives me a true or false(X).
This compares the total against another column S and this checks if the total column S < W then True else false. This works fine

If this is True then I am trying to make another column V highlight in a colour (cell only not row), but only where it is true.

I have been trying to use conditional formating using a formula but cannot seem to get it to work. how should the format values where this formula is true look like. I have the start but cannot work out how to make it work ="If ($X:$X= true then )"

Thanks

Also on this is it possible to have 2 conditional formats on one column and show 2 separate colours for each result

Thanks

Assuming your data starts in row 2.

Select cells in column V from V2 onwards

Set conditional formula of: =X2

Excel will automatically adjust the cell reference for each cell in the selection.

This formula is in itself a condition - provided the data stored in column X are logical values - True and False not just text.

Yes you can have many conditional format rules on any cell/range - select the same range and create a New Rule.

The rules need to be positioned in the correct order (select: Manage Rules) - as Excel will apply the format provided by the first condition that provides a True response.

cheers

Hi

Thanks for the reply. I will give your solution a go, however, in the mean time I have managed to achieve what I wanted from using 2 separate conditions.

Thanks for the reply
