just wanted to dot a few i's

sms is rubbish at deploying multiple applications to a client in a task sequenced fashion where the initiation of that process is highly critical.

does anyone disagree with this statement???

thanks

yup :-D

You can install multiple programs wrapped in say a sms installer package that waits for each one to finish before it starts the next...programs that need a reboot before your able to load the next on makes this much more dificult buts its still doable, using either the runonce reg key or....ummmthere is a tool but the name is escaping me at the moment, I'll find it.

thanks Tim,

to clarify natively in SMS with the use of a collection to deploy a package other than the ability to make collection membership dependant on other collection membership there is no other way to chain apps other than a 'wrapper' function, this wrapper function is started by SMS and then the control for reboots and continuation is no longer handled by SMS

Actually the program properties can tell it to launch another app 1st but yes I see what your saying, unless you create an installer package with multiple programs running in order in one exe or msi, you are somewhat limited with sms to do this other ways... but your really dont need another way in my experience. It just takes a more complex package.

thanks tim,
just wanted to make sure i hadnt missed anything with the arrival of SMS2003.
your input on this will give me a little more confidence for the next project meeting.
