I have an application in CF4.5 and now they want to upgrade it to CF 5.
Does anyone know of any side effects if the conversion takes place?

Thanks,
Longhorn

The only side effect would be speed improvements up to 1.5 times 4.5 if you're running NT, and up to 4 times if you're running linux.

Hey Longhorn,

There really aren't any side effects so much as portions of code that may not work the same. As CF has moved from version to version, default behaviors and such ocasionally change but it's usually in something obscure. I've seen this before but can't remember any specific examples. If your app is coded per specs, you shouldn't have any trouble. If however, you take advantage of un-documented features, you may find that certain assumptions now fail.

I saw a number of serious bugs in components such as FTP and Mail tags that came were introduced in CF 4.5 and these took a few service packs to fix. I would test your code very well before upgrading your main server. I usually recommend waiting a while to upgrade any major product so you let others debug it for you.

Since we're a CF hosting service, we have to stay as current as possible so I'll be one of those finding any bugs with this release :)

Good luck,
GJ
