I would like to quickly create a certificate seal style star burst. A circle with a many short sawtooth spires that create the edge of the circle.

Ishii, go to the Custom Shapes Tool (U). There's a few in there that should meet your needs. Load all the shapes if the bursts aren't presently in your palette.

Serves me right for posting before I've had my coffee! (durrr)
Well, the above would work in *Photoshop* ... you could create it there and import into Illustrator :)

Take II:
In Illustrator, use the Star Tool and, as you're drawing, tap the up/down arrow key until you have the desired number of points.

I figured out that if I took a circle and went to Effects:Distort & Transform:Zig Zag and that did the trick. You should try it. There is much more control than using the star tool.

Ishii - the joy of designing. There's usually many ways to accomplish the same/similar tasks. Check out the first few chapters of the Illustrator CS2 WOW! Book to see examples of more than a dozen ways to create many shapes.

Glad you discovered one that worked for you.
