I went thru the process of installing Certificate Services on my Exchange 2003 server after completing the wizard I went, on the server to to submit the certificate. It all seams to work until that point. When I try to submit the certificate request I get an error on the next page stating that

“No certificate template could be found. You do not have permission to request a certificate from the CA, or an error occurred while accessing the active directory”

I googled as much as I could this error and tried some of the resolutions but nothing seams to be helping…

I’m trying to install a certificate on my Exchange box to allow smart phones to sync over the air.

I have not much hair left on my head and any help would be much appreciated.

What happens if you use the certificate MMC actually on the server itself?

anything in event viewer?

Just found out where the problem was. when goign to and prompted for credentials, I was providing Administrator as user name, instead of domain\administrator (duh!). now I have access to the templates...

your first reply did make me think about this login part. Thank you!

I am in a similar situation as you (but further behind where you were). I have an Exchange 2003 cluster (2 node). I had been doing direct-push with it (through the same firewall, etc.). We now allow users to connect to OWA (it had been running before just disallowed in AD) so I installed an SSL certificate on it (issued by Network Solutions). I have installed their cab file to my WM6 device but can not connect to save my life. On to my question... after reading your post do I need to install Certificate Services on my Exchange 2003 server or is that only needed if you self certify?

TIA!
