I run solaris 8. My users login via a dumbterm. Some users have no trouble logging in. But other can type there user name and there password and it takes them right back to where they need to put there login name. Here is an example:

Connection established
login: jhorn
Password:
Connection established
login:

Don't know why this is happening. Some of these accounts were locked before. I did unlock them. I can change the password for them but it does the same. Any ideas?

are there to many users loged in at the same time? Maybe you run out of ttys? Are there any entries in /var/adm/messages?

The messages file is ok. I see no troubled events. On the night that they were trying to login there were only about 5 users on so I don't think that is the case.

how do you login telnet/rsh or at console?
Did you try to truss eg. telnet process?
If you logon vie net you can snoop the connection, maybe you can see what's going on...

They all have home dir. Theirlogins have been used successfully before. We log into terminals that are conneced localy (no network) through a telnet session.

I figured it out. I had to remove the warning date from the admintool and it worked. Woo Hoo!
