Aloha,

We have a customer with a network of BCM 400's ~ 500 phones. They have centralized voicemail and 4 digit dialing through out the enterprise.

They are looking to centralize trunking but I am wondering the best way to route calls from the trunking site to the remote sites. The trunking BCM will be connected to the PSTN via ISDN-PRI. When the trunking BCM receives a call for a set on a remote BCM what is the mechanism used to route the call over the IP trunk?

Would you just set up a destination code that matches the DNIS digts & route it over the IP trunk? We have an Adtran 550 sitting in front of the BCM so we could do some DNIS manipulation if needed.

Thanks for the help!
Matt

That would be what I would do, use IP trunks between sites and remote packaging at the main site. Do you already have private networking set between the sites?

Jim,

We do have IP networking set up. The users can 4 digit dial extensions between sites.

Nice you don't have to use target lines.....we would run out!

Haven't done it in a couple of years, but it's basically this:

Remote site builds a route with destination code of 9+ absorb none, pointing toward the IP of the main site, using a public network (you send the whole shebang along the trunk) Remote package on main end are pointing to a route that uses PRI-A, that destination code strips the 9 and sends it on it's merry way...there are a couple of steps I've missed, but that's the gist of it.
