I am trying to get a Norstar system to user a Octel Voicemail system connected through a Meridian Option 11 PBX in another location using the Public network. I am having an issue where the the phone is fowarded to the voice mail system but it is going to the main auto attendant and not the Voice Mail box. I have this working with a Merdian to Meridian without an issue so i figured since i did not set anything special with those systems it would work the same with the Norstar but it is not. I am sure you will need more details on my 2 systems and i will try my best to accomidate.

I would call a company called Voice mail international(ask for gary harbeck) out of florida , they sell a lot of octel. I wasnt aware you could put an octel on a norstar. I am sure you would need a VMI to integrate it. and they are very expensive and usually only handle 2 ports.
way cheper to just get them a call pilot , howeve I am sure you have your reasons for a octel.

Time change is coming , go here for feature codes and quick clock change
click on norstar feature codes

Anytime I have seen this type of setup with the Norstar systems (with non-Nortel voicemail system), VMI's are needed
to allow the two to work together.

Yes, they are expensive, but do work well.

There are only 2 seasons in Canada, Golf and Snowmobile season.

I have VMI's (6 of them) but do not know how to get this working. The VMI's work fine with the internal Octel but i would like them to use an offsite octel that is connected to a Option 11.

The situation is that if i Dial the central voicemail number from my extension it works ok. When i Call foward that line to the new centralized voicemail, the party that calls that line and goes to voicemail goes to the auot attendant and not the voicemail box.

I have also tried this with another location that has a nortel voicemail and a norstar but it has the same issue as the post above.

What kind of Octel is this? 200? 250? in the 200 Seranade the VMI only provides digital to analog converstion, with the Norstar will have to have mailboxes programmed to match the port numbers, and the VMI must be programmed correctly also, most important the disconnect of ###8.
I hope some of this helps, in working with the Octel intergrated to all diffrant PBX's, Keys, CO's the weakest link is the VMI. Good luck.

Here is a config note on an Octel 200/300 system using NPIC (2616) ports. This may or may not apply to your situation:

8.2 Network Message Services is supported with the NPIC. The minimum software is Release 15, and requires the following software options: Network Message Services (option 175), Advanced ISDN Network Feature (option 148), ISDN Signaling (option 145), ISDN Primary Rate Access (PRA, option 146) or ISDN Signaling Link 1 (ISL, option 147), Message Center (option 46), End to end signaling (option 10), and Coordinated Dial Plan (CDP, option 59) or Network Automatic Route Select (NARS, option 58)

8.3 Automated Attendant/ECP applications transferring calls between NMS nodes may experience loss of integration. When Trunk Route Optimization is enabled on NMS trunks, calls transferred to stations on remote switches that forward without first ringing the station do not pass called party ID to the NPIC port. Customer can enable Trunk Tromboning which allows the Call ID to be retained throughout the call process.

There is also either the CDR log or the List Trace utility on the Octel system to figure out what may be happening.

How do calls from the norstar get to the Meridian? You said that they go through the public network.Does that mean you are forwarding to a did in the Merdian. If so is the mailbox setup I don"t know the Octel but some v.m. systems won't allow a mailbox to answer unless the v.m.box is setup.
Or perhaps the v.m. box is not setup correctly. Are you forwarding the call to the Meridians main number Or a did
that is the pilot for the v.m.
