Hey,

Is CE9 for Unix out yet? If not, when's the release date?

And for those of you using CE9 on Windows, have you found any situations arising which made it necessary to upgrade of CR9?

My situation is that my client is able to upgrade of CE9 for nothing - but as they're on a Unix platform, I didn't even think this was a real option at the moment. And if they do upgrade, will they have to purchase CR9 in order to maximise the product(s)?

Thanks as ever for your input,

Naith

Naith,

No CE9 for UNIX yet. Might be out with CE95; no published release date. ALL situations with CE9 will require CR9, as both are unicode. Is the CE app service on UNIX, or just the database? If just the database, it is not a problem. What volume of reports and data are you running? Again, CE9 requires CR9.

Hey Jay,

Thanks for the informative response.

At the moment, the client is running CE85 on UNIX, but because their database client is not supported, it means that the bulk of CE is installed on Solaris, whilst the APS database is sitting on an NT box. They want to move away from this architecture - which I can't blame them for - and they've been told by Crystal that CE9 will let them do this. I just didn't think 9 was out for Solaris yet.

Additionally, they haven't grasped that a free upgrade to CE9 won't typically mean a free upgrade to CR9, if it isn't packaged with CE9 when it's released - which I just wanted to confirm they would need.

Thanks again,

Naith
