When viewing the latest instance of a report that was scheduled directly into Excel, the following behaviour occurs:-

1) If Excel is not currently open on the users PC the report opens into Excel but there is a blank IE window behind it.
2) If Excel is already open the report opens in an IE window where there is no option to save the report as an Excel file.

This happens on one PC, but on another number 2) always occurs.
Does anybody know of a way (or a fix) so that when a user views the latest instance the report always loads into Excel.

Any assistance greatly appreciated as always.

Hi,

Try the following:

In Crystal Enterprise (CE), when viewing instances scheduled to Microsoft Excel, you notice that the instances open in Internet Explorer (IE) rather than Excel and that none of the Excel menus or toolbars are available.

Why does the instance open in IE instead of Excel?
Solution
The instance opens in IE instead of Excel because of a setting in 'Windows Explorer'.

To change this setting, complete the following steps:

====================
NOTE:

The following procedure is written for a Windows 2000 operating system however it applies to other Windows operating systems. If the procedure is different for your operating system, see the online help by pressing the F1 key.
====================

1. In 'Windows Explorer', click 'Folder Options' on the 'Tools' menu.

2. Click the 'File Types' tab and then click "XLS Microsoft Excel Worksheet" from the list of registered file types. XLS is near the bottom of this list.

3. Click the 'Advanced' button.

4. Clear the 'Browse in same window' check box and click 'OK'.

Now when you view Excel instances, they open in Excel with the expected Excel menus and toolbars.

Thanks for the tip, Nuffsaid. We were struggling with this and your suggestion solved the problem. ***

Thanks Nuffsaid. Though we are still getting the blank IE window pop up, but this is tolerable as now the users now manipulate the Excel spreadsheet.

Hi,

I have no idea what's causing the blank IE window, but I'm glad your users can now work eith Excel. :eek:)

Hi,
Right-click on the blank page and view its source - it may reveal why it is opened..
