I am working within a CE 10 clustered environment reporting with CR 10 against an SAP 4.71 system. I have SP1 applied. My server OS is Win2003. All my CE services are running with a domain account that belongs to the local Administrators group for each server.

My issue is this: Periodically throughout the day users are experiencing the following error when they try to view SAP reports 'There was an error retrieving data from the server: The database logon information for this report is either incomplete or incorrect. Scheduled reports are fine and a report run from Crystal Reports is fine. Reports run against an informix database are also fine.

Any suggestions?

Just had a similar problem with CE.
Found a password glitch in CE.
My password contained exclamation marks. !scanner!
When I made the user type it in manually it worked but when I stored the password I got the same error message as you. I changed the database login password to something without punctuation like "scanner" and it worked. Still working with BO to see if it is a defect.

Rob,

The password was one of the first things I looked at. We don't use special characters in it so the potential that they were not being recognized was eliminated. The latest common10win_en fix eliminated the error for all of our reports except one which I provided to BO to investigate.

Here is the latest feedback I received from BO - and it was not what I wanted to hear. I had BO focus on why the error was not being eliminated for this specific report and it turns out a whole can of worms came out.

They recognize that there is a bug in the software that has not been fixed in v10, and when they tested the scenario in XI it was in that version as well. From what I was told it has to do with reports which contain subreports in the detail section in combination with the use of shared variables. The bug is in the CRPE engine and they are saying it would be a major fix so the patch release may not be out until 4Q05/Q106 - essentially the next product release. Because the issue/fix is so complex they are not sure if they plan to retrofit the fix for previous versions of CE.

The only workaround we have been able to ascertain is forcing the user to use the Advanced DHTML browser for this particular report which can be done automatically through some code modification of several csp files and a javascript file or redesigning the report itself.

"As for the issue itself the work around is somewhat simple (use the Interactive Viewer). From a report design perspective the issue can be avoided by making sure that shared variables are not used in reports where you must drill down into the group header."

Unfortunately for us, some of the reports we design need to have these variables and the drill-down functionality.
If it was only going to be one report we could live with it until a future release; however, we have a number of complex reports is the development queue which may encounter the same problem. Obviously this is not sitting too well with our IT management.

I will keep you posted.

I was finally able to install the most recent Hot fixes for CE and so far so good.

Thank you Ken for your help.
