I recently built a pc with an AMD-XP2600 processor and 512MB ram. I purchased a cheap 52x CDRW drive from Best Buy. This cdrw flies, but after burning 3 or 4 consectutive cds, I start getting buffer underrun errors. I've tried using both the Nero Express software that came with the drive and Roxio 5. Is it possible that the drive is overheating? I have installed two case fans, but I have not tried burning multiple cds yet. Any other suggestions?

Does the drive support Burnproof technology? Almost all burners I've seen in the past 2 years have it. Burnproof allows the burner to pause its laser when the buffer runs dry in order to prevent buffer underruns.

I know in Easy CD 5, there is an option called "Buffer Underrun Prevention" that you can enable on the "Record CD" properties screen. It might be grayed out if your burner doesn't support it.

Buffer underrun protection is great, or at least it works well on my PC. With my old burner that did not have it, I used to make a lot of coasters :-( To give it the best chance, select the "copy to hard drive first" option in the burning software, and terminate all non essential programs or processes that may be running in the background while the disk is burning. When I took these steps with the old burner, it worked much better. but I found that after burning 3 to 4 disks I still had to do a reboot or it was back to the coasters again..

It can sometimes help if you have DMA enabled in the settings for your CD Drive.

HI, I have a similar problem. If I at first boot up pc, and burn a disc, im fine. but, its when i try to do others afterwards. I get a few underrun errors, and then eventually the program freezes, the door to the burner will not open, and sometimes, the whole pc will just freeze.

lately its been making a noise, not all the time.

i have dma enabled, and i still get the same things, even if i burn to disc first. also, i get some warnings about the disk cache being full, where do i clear it out at?

yes, im new to burning.

thanks.
