My 4x4x32 drive is being detected as an ARMD-MO
an Atapi Removable Media Device in the Bios. when i switch it too cdrom it shows incompatible atapi device during startup. leaving it as ARMD-MO it lists 6x4x32""""""""""" during the startup. In windows 98 device manager under cdrom, it shows up as AVARI "" CF-R/RW"4Z4Z32" What in the world could this be? Could it be a corrupted firmware file? A bad CDRW drive? I tried using a new cable, same problem, tried using other IDE whcich the hdd was on and working properly, same problem. Call tech support for the BIOS/Board manufacturer, they couldn't figure out the problem, I called the cdrw tech support they couldn't figure out the problem, before i ship the drive to them, I wanted to know if there could be anything else that could be causing this trange problem. It has been working fine for almost 2 years up untill 8 days ago....I'm worn out...

Your firmware provides the ident to the bios. sounds like it is corrupted. Usually you can download new firmware from the Cd/ROM MFG. Regards from Bluewater on the Great Barrier Reef.

Thanx for the info, the firmware seems to have gotten fried. I went out and bought a new 32x10x40 drive. Nice of Acer to want to charge me 35 bucks to fix it since it was out of warranty, after i bargained with, hmmm that plus 10 bucks to ship it, i got the new one for 60 bucks and i got 20 coming back after the rebate. I think i made out. Thanx for the response
