Basically I was benchmarking this system and now now CD-ROM type hardware can be found by Windows or the Windows XP Pro OEM instal disk.

I though Sissoft Sandra might have caused it but I'm not sure. I tried to install XP again using my XP install disks but it can't find a CDROM. I Set the BIOS to default but it didn't work. I was benchmarking with 3D Mark 2001 SE all day running at like 290MHz FSB.. I might reset the CMOS but I want to know what you guys think before I try???

Below is the Setup:

Pentium 4 2.53GHz
512MB Mushkin HP PC2100 CL2 DDR
Gigabyte P4 Titan 667 GA-8ST667
Western Digital 80GB 72000RPM HDD (Master - Primary IDE)
Aopen 40x CDRW (Master - Secondary IDE)
Pioneer A04 DVDRW (Slave - Secondary IDE)
ATI Radeon 9700 PRO
Audigy X-Gamer

Windows XP Pro OEM (Clean Install)
Newest Radeon Drivers
Newest DVDRW Firmware
Newest CDRW Firmware
Newest Audigy Drivers
Newest Motherboard BIOS

I've since reset the BIOS and now the motherboard no longer can see the CDROM or DVDRW. I've changed out my rounded cables for the stock IDE and still not working. Everytime I shutdown windows correctly when I boot up next it always give me the windows send error window even though I power down correctly. Can anyone help me, I need to give the PC to it's owner tomorrow.

Have you tried taking out the CD RW drive and having the DVD RW on its own?

I have seen somewhere before that there can be problems grouping RW drives together, it maybe that it can't support the two on the same channel.

I am only a junior Technician so this maybe one for the real experts, how does the DVD RW perform in another system, does that detect it?, have you checked the manufacturers websites to see if it needs seting up a certain way?

I know its alot of questions but it will help you trouble shoot it further, i'd start off taking out the CD RW first I think

In addition to putting each drive on its own cable, make sure the jumper on the CDROMs are not cable select.
Try switchin IDE ports on the mobo as well. ~Apex1x
