CDONTS vs. ASPmail

I want to send an email from an ASP script. In this forum, I've seen references to CDONTS and ASPMail. What's the difference between the two? Is MS Exchange required for either, both?

An SMTP server is required for CDONTS, and it will run faster than ASPEmail. The good thing about ASPEmail is that you don't need an SMTP Server on the machine where it's running because it allows you to specify a host.

Both work perfectly well, though.
