CD-RW stopped reading disks!!~

I bought a compaq presario system about a year ago and the CD-RW that came with it suddenly can't read anymore disks now. Whenever i put in a disk, it says that the drive is empty. I didn't add any new hardware/software recently so nothing has really changed.
Whats the problem?

You might try a CD drive cleaning kit, probably available at CompUSA or Best Buy etc. Your lens on the drive may be dirty. Other than that I can't help you. Good luck.

Dito!! clean the optical lens, if you are fairly handy you can do this properly by stripping the drive (not for the faint hearted!!) takes about 20-30 mins, clean with a glasses lens cloth so as not to scratch the optics.
Also try the settings tab in devive manager/cdrom drives.
make sure the drives have there proper letters assigned to them etc Martin
