CD-Rom slow reading...

Hey im just having alot of problems with every CD rom drive i seem to get first of all i had a 24x CD-Rom which always used to take along time to read from a cd and some time sounds like its about to take off. so then i got a 50x and then that started doing the same sooo just a few months ago i got a new 1ghz computer with a dvd rom in and now thats doing the same with CD's i must say all these CD's do have a few little scratchs on but nothing bad and they all work right away first time in my slow as heck laptop... and ive also tried a lens cleaner on all but still no luck :

How is the CD ROM drive connected to the mobo, Tommy? Is it using the same IDE cable as the HDD? I prefer to have it on a seperate cable myself.

Hey thanks for the reply, Yeah it is do you really think by changing this could help? i'll try have ago at changing it later thanks again
