can anyone help please! I'm having a problem with my CD-Rom Drive. When i put a disc in the drive it starts spinning like mad, but it only reads a little bit of the disc then starts spinning like mad again. Its as if its trying to read the disc but its stalling, can anyone help please.

Have you run a cleaning disk in it yet?

My old drive was doing it so i bought a new CD-Rom drive and thats doing the same thing. Any ideas

What exactly are you trying to read? There are some types of media that you have trouble with.

then there is the possibility of a cable problem, possible corrosion on the contacts, and some problem getting the info thru the IDE channel.

General diagnostics are replace parts through the chain or swap over to the other channel until you can see a difference. That is the ususal pointer to the problem.

The drive plays audio CD's no problem, but when i try, for example a driver disk, it seems to take forever to read from the disk.
