I certainly hope that you can help me with this annoying problem. I have a compaq 4626 presario, For some reason it will not recognize the cd rom drive. It will boot up from the cd drive by way of a restore disk but will not assign a drive letter to it . I am running the original win95 that came with the machine. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Check Compaq web site for your models. There are some of then that do not boot from CDROM, except Recovery CD. To resolve the problem you probably will have to upgrade your BIOS. You can find this upghrade on Compaq web site too.
