Hello!

I have a question about my CD-ROM drive (AOpen).....on the face of the drive, there is a headphone jack and my speakers have a jack too.....but if im playing a game that has music, I have to put my headphones in the CD-Rom jack to hear the music, but I wont be able to hear the other sounds in the game...and if I put my headphones in the speakers, I wont hear the music of the game, but I'll here the sounds of the game. Is there a way that I can just have the music and the sounds together come out of the speakers alone? Thanx Alot!

Specs:
Pentium III 700mhz
20gb HD
AOpen CD-ROM drive
Windows 98 Second Edition

I'm thinkin that the audio cable is not connected at the rear of the CD-ROM to your sound card.

If it is, it may not have the pins connected in the right order to match up with the sound card.

ie:

R G G L or R G L G

R=right (red usually) ; L=left (white usually);
G=ground (black tubing over wire)

many sound cards will have 2 plugs to accept either orientation, the orientation of the CD-ROM plug is usually on the back of the deck near the plug, match it.

You may also just be missing an audio driver, or codec for your sound card.

Ok...thanks alot....i see what your talking about on the back of the drive....there was no cable connected at all... I have a cable to use but its not long enough to connected the two together...any suggestions on what I should do?....i might go the a PC store and buy a longer one, but what is the name of the cable? What should I ask for?...thanx a million!

You should be able to get one at nearly any computer store, even Radio Shack or the like, CompUSA, Compusmart, Computer City, etc

What you need is called the CD-ROM Audio Cable or Universal CD-ROM Audio Cable ( that one has both plug types)

Radio Shack has one with Cat.#: 950-0543 its about $6

tell them you need the cable that goes from the CD-ROM to your sound card, they will know what you need.
