I have an Acer Cd-rw 4X4X32 and a Hiitashi 24X Cdrom in my computer which has a Matronic Aladdin V Mother board with an AMD K2-6 3d Now chip on it. I have 256 Megs of ram. A Creative Sound Blaster Live sound card. A Voodoo 3 3000 3dfx AGP video card. A Speed Stream DSL pci card. A realteck 10mbs pci nic card. I need help. I have Win ME and everytime I try to play an audio cd (in either drive) or a game it locks up on me. If I mess with any of the settings of either Cd drive in System Properties, when i try and save it locks up. I cant burn anything on the cd-rw without lock up. This is with any burning software. I reformated and Reinstalled everything and no avail. Now i can install programs and games with both drives but i cant do any of the things mentioned above. I even took one out and then the other and switched master and slave settings on both IDE connections. Please HELP!!!

I just tried it and it still locks up... PLEASE SOMEONE HELP!!!! Could there be a bios setting i need to change could my ide connection be messed up. Please dont let my rewriter be toasted :(

Have you triple checked the jumpers on the drives to make sure they're set right?
Have you got any yellow ! marks in device manager?
Have you got the Via 4 in 1 drivers for your IDE?
Start there, and let us know. Cheers,

Thank you. I downloaded the newest IDE drivers for my mobo and everything now works. I can play audio cds on both drives and i can burn disks again. Thank you. :)

Lower the speed of your cd/rw.Also go to device manager click properties of your cd/rw and go to settings.Make sure DMA is not checked, and that sync data transfer is checked.
