Used to when it would disapper it would reappear after reboot, but now it wont even reappear after reboot? anyone else have this problem? If anyone could tell me how to fix it i would appreciate it. I have an HP pavilion notebook computer and would hate to have to reformat to correct the problem. Is there any way to do it without a complete reformat?
Thanks in advance.

I forgot to tell you.. I cant boot up in safe mode either it just wont let me. I tried it says starting diagnostics and then either says it cant perform the task or brings me back up to my desktop any clues?

See the Following about the CD:

about the SafeMode... I can only suggest that you do a ViralScan and Malware/Spyware scan, first... just to make sure that all is in order...

other than that I am at a loss...

Have you seen any type of red or yellow marks are any error messages in device manager?
It it were a pc i would suggest you unhook all ide items except your hard drive, boot up, then, if all is well, add in one ide item back at a time. But since its a notebook i dont know what you can do.
Maybe some additional specs on your notebook would enable those people here with notebook experience to help you better.

and my cd/dvd rom isnt even listen in device manager! i am at loss as to what to do. I dont want to have to reformat, but its looking like i am going to have to :(

Reread my POST... you do not have to Re Install anything...

your Upper and Lower Filters have gotten corrupted, by either installing or deinstalling a CD Burn Software or one crashing... it's not a big deal...

Hi i tried that, but there is nothing in my device manager for me to remove and all my software is bundled on my quick restore C.D.'s. I tried rebooting to see if it would install after i removed the key, but still nothing.

Then there is the Possibility of a loose Cable (IDE or Power) to and from the DVD/CD-ROM...
