Hi,
I have a stange one I think, recently my desktop has stopped recognising any CD i place in either the CD/DVD drive on my desktop I also have attached an Iomega external CD and it also has the same problem
I have disabled each and renabled, changes the F drive in the Bios from auto to secondary slave and still cannot get the drive to read any.
The message tells insert a CD into the drive even though I have one in.
Thanks
Dermot

Have you another machine you can try the drives in/connected to? If it had just been your internal drive I'd have said its died - but with external drive involved as well.. You need to test them elsewhere first.

btw - did this 'just happen' or was there period of not reading CDs as well as normal? If it just happened - did you make any hardware/software changes shortly before this?

Wolluf,
How can I test these drives which are on my desktop with another machine. Forgive me for not being so knowledgeable!

Do you have access to a second desktop pc? If so, shut your pc down, open the case, remove the drive. Then install the drive in the second pc and see if it works.

IF you don't ahve a second pc, you will need to find someone/some place locally that will be willing to test the drive(s) for you.

I would also check the media. Check for scratches, is it clean?

This one would be the easiest to try on another machine. Simply remove the USB/FW cable and connect it to another PC. Many public libraries allow you to use external devices like USB keys, this is similar. I don't suspect there will be additional drivers needed to attach it to a WinXP machine.
