I have a Teac CD-W512EB CD burner which has been doing fine for over a year with XP. Yesterday it decided to disappear. If I uninstall it to let itself find itself again, it tells me that the drivers have a problem. How, I have a list of the drivers and have deleted them, but how do I get to reinstall? I copied I386 folder from the install cd so I can access the files, but how do you do a repair without booting from the cd? Obviously, that's not gonna happen!! Did XP come with the ability to make boot floppies or did that end with Win2K?

You could try using system restore to get back before the problem and see if that fixes any software problem.

Well, so far I have checked all connections, deinstalled the burner in XP, rebooted, and then tried to reinstall it, and did a total install (repair) of XP.
The bewildering thing to me is that CMOS finds it when I boot up, and then it disappears from XP.

Thanks, Laura (now looking for a new good cd burner)

Thank you, bcastner ... your references aimed me at what the problem was ... Roxio's Easy CD Creator 5 had a corrupted file. I deinstalled, rebooted, then ran the restore CD rom drives to explorer, rebooted, and they magically reappeared!

Everyone, I really appreciate your help! To do a full CD copy, what other programs are good?

Thanks again, Laura in TX
